Penzance, England
Today was a day of driving and a missed
opportunity.
I moved from Bath to Penzance. Yes, the
Penzance of the Broadway play fame. It was a fishing village in the
far southwest corner of Britain. Due to it's position between the
Atlantic and the English Channel, it was a prime location for pirates
and smuglers.
Today, it's tourists.
The drive was mostly freeway driving
until the last 30 miles or so (they use miles here, not kilometers).
2 or 4 lane road with roundabouts every 2 to 5 miles. Traffic would
back up at each one.
The missed opportunity came after I got
here. Just down the coast a mile or 2 is St. Michael's Mount. It's
a pyramid shaped island about ½ mile from shore with a castle on
top. I went over and took some photos, but the light wasn't very
good. This was about 3:00 in the afternoon. So, I waited for the
light to get better. It was windy and cool, so I waited in the car.
About 4:00 it was better, but I thought it would be even better
later, so I waited some more. Unfortunately, I fell asleep and when
I woke, it had all clouded over. Drat! Anyway, this is what I got:
